The state of Colorado requires that any working as a phlebotomist completes phlebotomy certification courses and has 100 hours of clinical training. Certification requires that you pass the national certification exam, and Colorado also has a state licensure exam which must be passed and renewed annually. This is often accompanied by refresher courses or continuing education courses, in an effort to keep Colorado phlebotomists at the forefront of any changes to technology or best practices.
Phlebotomists are responsible for drawing blood from patients who need blood tests conducted, or during blood drives. Blood samples are taken with skin punctures or venipunctures, and learning to quickly and successfully draw blood does take some practice.
